To put it simply, we aim to restore the Nomadic as a static floating visitor attraction in time for the Titanic centenary celebrations, with a view to:
- Ensuring economic and social impact by acting as a catalyst for urban regeneration and for tourism.
- Promoting our shared heritage and create a space for the collective sharing of achievements, a place which promotes the idea of “our history, our future”.
- Creating a sustainable visitor attraction.
- Undertaking a high quality restoration of the ship.
- Promote Belfast as an outward and forward looking region.
Our formal vision and objectives are set out below:
To restore the SS Nomadic and to make her accessible such that she can play a key role as a celebration of the Titanic and our maritime and industrial heritage and as a catalyst for tourism and social and economic development.
1. To secure funding from a range of sources to ensure that Nomadic is restored in the long term to an extent that reflects and showcases the best of Belfast’s maritime and industrial heritage and that can enable the overall vision of the Trust to be realised.
2. To create a sustainable and highly marketable visitor attraction in the port of Belfast, through funding and through own revenue that enhances the Nomadic, Titanic and overall Belfast brands.
3. To develop a clear brand for Nomadic that ensures the history of Nomadic helps to promote Belfast and its history alongside that of the Titanic brand
4. To create a legacy for the industrial and maritime heritage of Belfast that ensures the significant world renowned reputation developed by Belfast in numerous industries throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries is recognised, understood and celebrated.
5. To maximise the good will inherent in the Nomadic Trust project in such a way that enables a high level of public interest (both within and beyond Belfast and Northern Ireland) that is reflected in volunteer numbers, gift aiding, funding, fundraising and sponsorship, visitor numbers (new and repeat) and which also encourages the development of partnerships which can formalise good will, develop other revenue streams, encourage other related developments and maximise demonstrable public interest.
6. To ensure there is demonstrable economic impact to Belfast in particular and the region in general by maximising local and overseas visitor numbers that aims to ensure sustainable revenue for the Trust, significant expenditure for other related and non-related attractions and provides a range of sustainable employment and related skills development.
7. To ensure there is a demonstrable social impact to Belfast in particular and the region in general by ensuring the cross community and educational potential of the Nomadic is fully realised and sustained.
8. To act as a catalyst to promote the positive aspects of Belfast as an important city of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and as a positive place to live, work, socialise, visit and invest.
9. To operate the Trust in such a way that is consistent with best practice with regards to corporate and policy governance and which encourages creative approaches and ideas; and which provides future generations with a sustainable and highly prized cultural gem with which to sustain and promote Belfast and Northern Ireland as a hugely important historic city and one that reflects its vision as an outward and forward looking region.
10. To ensure that the Nomadic as a restored visitor attraction is ready in time for the key centenary anniversaries of the launch of the Titanic, Nomadic and other White Star vessels.
